Hangzhou : The Indian women’s hockey team lost their second Super4 match 1-4 against hosts China at the Women’s Asia Cup 2025 in Hangzhou on Thursday. Mumtaz Khan (38′) scored India’s only goal, while Zou Meirong (4′, 56′), Chen Yang (31′), and Tan Jinzhuang (47′) found the net for China.
The first quarter was lively, with both sides attacking the circles and creating opportunities. China struck early in the 4th minute when India made a good save, but the rebound fell to Zou Meirong, who tapped it into an empty net. India continued to press and earned their first penalty corner in the 10th minute, but the Chinese defence held firm.
The second quarter also saw end-to-end action, yet neither team could score. In the final five minutes of the first half, India intensified their pressure on China’s defence and controlled possession, hoping to equalise. Another penalty corner in the 27th minute did not yield a goal, and India went into halftime a goal behind.
China extended their lead in the third quarter’s opening minute after India lost possession in their circle, allowing Chen Yang to score from close range. India responded in the 38th minute, when Mumtaz Khan scored a stunning field goal. Lalremsiami passed the ball to her at the edge of the circle, and Khan launched a powerful back-handed shot into the net. Moments later, Zou Meirong’s attempt on goal was blocked by India’s Bichu Devi, who showed great reflexes.
The final quarter saw China strengthen their lead. They converted a penalty corner in the 47th minute through Tan Jinzhuang and added another field goal in the 56th minute by Zou Meirong, sealing the 4-1 victory and securing a place in the final.
India will face Japan on Friday in their third Super4 match, aiming for a win to set up a potential clash with hosts China for the coveted title.
