Kujang, Nabarangpur: A heart-wrenching road accident occurred near Kothiasahi on the Cuttack-Paradip State Highway, claiming the lives of a father and his 9-year-old daughter after a speeding heavy vehicle ran over them.
The deceased have been identified as Rajkishore Biswal and his daughter Lori Biswal (9) of Shandhapur village under Kujang police limits.
According to reports, the incident happened on Thursday afternoon when Rajkishore was returning home on a bike with his daughter after picking her up from DPS School near Paradip Refinery. As they reached Kothiasahi square, a fast-moving truck (OD 09 7255) carrying construction materials rammed into their bike.
The impact caused both father and daughter to fall off the bike and get run over by the truck. They died on the spot.
Following the incident, enraged locals blocked the Cuttack-Paradip Highway at Kothiasahi, demanding stringent action against the negligent driver and adequate compensation for the family.
Kujang police reached the scene and are attempting to clear the blockade. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and an investigation is underway.
