New Delhi: Cricket fans can finally relax as Shreyas Iyer discharged from hospital in Sydney after suffering a serious abdominal injury during the third ODI against Australia on October 25. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that the middle-order batter is stable and recovering steadily.
Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen while fielding, which resulted in a laceration to his spleen and internal bleeding. Prompt medical care and a minor procedure helped control the bleeding, ensuring a safe recovery process.
In a statement, the BCCI said, “He is now stable and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are pleased with his progress, and he has been discharged from the hospital today.”
The board expressed gratitude to Dr. Kouroush Haghigi and his team in Sydney, and Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, for their expert treatment. As part of the recovery plan, Iyer will continue to stay in Sydney for medical follow-ups before returning home once deemed fit to fly.
Earlier, the cricketer thanked fans for their overwhelming support, saying, “I’m deeply grateful for all the kind wishes and support I’ve received — it truly means a lot.”
With Shreyas Iyer discharged from hospital, his recovery marks a positive step forward, and Team India fans are eagerly waiting to see him back on the field soon.
