Chandigarh: Prithvi Shaw is back in explosive form! Prithvi Shaw records second-fastest Ranji Trophy double century, hitting the headlines on Monday by recording the second-fastest Ranji Trophy Elite double century, scoring a dazzling 200 off just 141 balls for Maharashtra against Chandigarh.
After failing with just 8 runs in the first innings, Shaw made a fiery comeback on Day 3, reaching his century in only 72 balls the sixth-fastest century in Ranji history. He then powered ahead, blasting 13 fours and several sixes to reach 200 in 141 deliveries at Chandigarh’s Sector 16 Stadium.
This innings places him just behind Ravi Shastri’s 123-ball double ton for Bombay in the 1984–85 season. It’s also faster than most modern first-class knocks, reaffirming Shaw’s talent and hunger for redemption.
Interestingly, the fastest Indian First-Class double century still belongs to Hyderabad’s Tanmay Agarwal, who achieved the feat in just 119 balls during the 2024 Ranji Plate tournament.
Once hailed as India’s next big opener, Shaw has had a rollercoaster career from leading the 2018 U-19 World Cup-winning team to being unsold in the IPL 2025 auction. However, this blistering innings signals a strong comeback.
With Maharashtra leading by over 460 runs, Shaw remains unbeaten on 222 off 156 balls, hammering 29 boundaries and four sixes. His latest innings has not only reignited his domestic career but also reminded fans why he was once considered India’s brightest young star.
