Bhubaneswar , Odisha : Odisha EOW arrests BJD leader in a major financial fraud case involving Rs 12.42 crore. The Enforcement Wing of Odisha Police acted swiftly after uncovering irregularities and embezzlement, aiming to bring accountability and transparency in political dealings.
The accused, Dillip Kumar Nayak, hails from Jhanjiri Mangala under the jurisdiction of Badambadi police station in Cuttack.
Dillip had contested the 2024 Assembly elections from the Nimapara constituency as a BJD candidate against Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida.
The complainant, Bijay Kumar Rout, a resident of Ranihat Malisahi in Cuttack, lodged a complaint at the Badambadi Police Station. The EOW later took over the case and registered it formally on September 19.
Bijay alleged that Dillip cheated him by inducing him to enter a joint real estate business and invest in land purchases. During the investigation, the EOW discovered that between 2015 and 2017, Dillip took Rs 3 crore from Bijay on different dates under the pretext of real estate investment.
In 2018, Dillip again took Rs 4 crore from Bijay, promising a landed plot at Bajrakabati in Cuttack city, but failed to deliver it. He then convinced the informant to invest in a better plot at Patia and fraudulently took Rs 3.42 crore as an additional cost.
Furthermore, Dillip collected Rs 3 crore from Bijay, including Rs 1 crore from his wife, to form a company. The EOW confirmed that except for returning Rs 1 crore, Dillip did not repay the remaining amount.
In 2021, the accused persuaded Bijay to invest Rs 3.5 crore to purchase 5 acres of land at Trisulia in Cuttack. Dillip deceitfully registered himself as a joint owner of the property and later sold 2.5 acres of the land secretly, without informing Bijay.
During the search at Dillip’s residence, the EOW seized several incriminating documents, including sale deeds, Power of Attorney, agreements to sell, bank accounts, and papers registered in different names.
