Bhubaneswar, Odisha : Odisha is set to roll out 600 e-buses, expanding its fleet to 1,050 vehicles and giving a major boost to green mobility. The initiative, announced by Housing & Urban Development Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mohapatra, aims to make public transport eco-friendly, safe, and affordable across the state.
Of the 600 new e-buses, 200 will be procured by the State Government, while 400 will be provided by the Central Government under Prime Minister-led schemes. This addition will help Odisha meet the rising demand for eco-friendly urban transport.
In the first phase, 25 e-buses will be deployed in Sambalpur, followed by phased operations in Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Berhampur, and Angul. Services will be managed by Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) under the “Aam Bus” initiative, ensuring safe, affordable, and green commuting options for citizens.
Odisha has already secured 5th position nationally in e-bus operations, contributing to the country’s overall fleet of 14,329 e-buses under flagship schemes like PM-E Bus Sewa and PM-E Drive. The state continues to actively leverage these schemes to strengthen urban mobility infrastructure.
“With the rollout of 600 e-buses, Odisha is taking a decisive step towards greener cities and smarter urban transport,” said Dr. Mohapatra, emphasizing the state’s commitment to sustainable development and eco-friendly public transportation.
