Bhubaneswar, Odisha: Maha Prasad online sale rejected by Puri Jagannath Temple to safeguard the sacred tradition and spiritual sanctity of the offering. This firm decision to reject the Maha Prasad online sale underscores the temple’s unwavering dedication to preserving the deep-rooted sanctity and spiritual significance of this divine offering, ensuring it remains a pure and devotional practice as per age-old customs.

Recently, several institutions approached the temple administration seeking permission to deliver Maha Prasad to devotees across India and abroad via online platforms. While this initiative aimed to make the sacred offering accessible to devotees worldwide, temple authorities expressed concerns that the spiritual purity and sanctity of Maha Prasad could not be guaranteed once it leaves the temple premises through online channels. Officials emphasized that Maha Prasad is not merely food but a blessed offering imbued with divine grace, which requires direct reception at the temple itself.

The Shri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has appealed to devotees to visit Puri in person to have darshan of Lord Jagannath and receive Maha Prasad directly, honoring the sacred tradition. The administration also urged other temple authorities across India not to commercialize temple offerings or treat them like ordinary food delivery items, which would undermine their spiritual value.

In a related development, the temple administration has finalized plans to implement a standardized rate chart for Abhada — the temple-cooked food. This move aims to bring transparency and uniformity in the distribution of temple offerings and will be introduced soon, further strengthening temple governance.

By rejecting the Maha Prasad online sale, the Puri Jagannath Temple reaffirms its commitment to protecting centuries-old traditions and ensuring that the divine blessings continue to be received in their purest form, preserving the sanctity that devotees cherish deeply.
