New Delhi, Sep 9 : The Indian Women’s Hockey Team will aim to extend its unbeaten run as it prepares for the Super4s stage of the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup 2025 in Hangzhou.
India faces a challenging round-robin phase against hosts China, defending champions Japan, and Korea in this critical segment of the tournament.
The Indian side topped Pool B with seven points from three matches. They started with a dominant 11-0 victory over Thailand, followed by a thrilling 2-2 draw against Japan, and concluded the pool stage with a commanding 12-0 win against Singapore.
Forwards Navneet Kaur and Mumtaz Khan have been in fine form, scoring five goals each during the pool stage. Their continued scoring will be crucial as India eyes a spot in the final.
The Super4s stage will see India, China, Japan, and Korea face each other once. The top two teams will advance to the final, while the remaining sides play for third place. India will open the Super4s against Korea on September 10, followed by matches against China on September 11 and Japan on September 13.
India enters this stage with strong momentum, while Korea recorded two wins and a loss in their pool matches. In the last five encounters between India and Korea, India secured three victories, Korea won once, and one match ended in a draw, giving the Indian team a psychological advantage.
Indian Women’s Hockey Team Coach Harendra Singh said, “We are pleased with the way the team has started the tournament. The players have shown good intent, maintained discipline, and capitalised on our attacking opportunities. The pool stage gave us a platform to build momentum and test ourselves against different styles of play.
“The Super4s will be a different challenge, facing strong opponents like Korea, China, and Japan. Our focus is on sticking to our structure, being sharp in defence, and converting chances. There is little room for error in this stage, so consistency and composure will be key. The players understand the responsibility of wearing the Indian jersey, and they are eager to continue the momentum. If we play to our potential and trust our process, I am confident we can achieve our goals.”
