New Delhi: Indian women wrestlers delivered a stellar performance at the ongoing Under-23 Senior World Wrestling Championship in Novi Sad, Serbia, bringing home five bronze medals across different weight categories. The achievements of Indian women wrestlers on this stage have been inspiring.
The medal winners include Nishu (55 kg), Neha Sharma (57 kg), Pulkit (65 kg), Shrishti (68 kg), and Priya (76 kg). Their determination and skill impressed fans and established India as a strong contender in women’s wrestling. Indian women wrestlers like these have significantly raised the bar in the sport.
Adding to the excitement, two Indian wrestlers advanced to the finals to compete for gold on Saturday. Hanshika Lamba (53 kg) and Sarika Malik (59 kg) will face tough Japanese opponents, aiming to further elevate India’s medal tally and showcase the potential of Indian women wrestlers on a global stage.
On the men’s side, Vishvajit More claimed a bronze in the 55 kg Greco-Roman category, giving India its first medal of the championship. Vishvajit defeated the Kazakh wrestler 5–4 in a thrilling bout, showcasing grit and technical superiority throughout the tournament. After winning key matches against opponents from Romania and the USA, he lost in the quarterfinals but bounced back in the repechage round to secure the podium finish.
The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President, Sanjay Kumar Singh, praised the wrestlers’ performance, calling it a “testament to India’s growing strength in international wrestling,” particularly commending the impact of Indian women wrestlers.
With medals flowing in and finals still to come, India’s wrestlers continue to shine on the global stage, making the U-23 Senior World Wrestling Championship an unforgettable event for the nation.
