Indian travellers to Germany reached a record 520,000 overnight stays between January and July, highlighting the country’s growing popularity among tourists from India. Moreover, improved air connectivity and targeted marketing campaigns have boosted both leisure and business travel, making Germany one of the top European destinations for Indian visitors.
New Delhi : New Delhi reported that India accounted for over 520,000 overnight stays in Germany during the same period, confirming its position as a top-three European destination for Indian travellers, according to the German National Tourist Office (GNTO, India) on Tuesday.
Improved air connectivity and campaigns that resonate with modern Indian travellers further drive this positive momentum.
“The impressive travel figure, which includes both leisure and business trips, proves Germany’s growing appeal and demonstrates Indian travellers’ increasing desire to explore its diverse offerings,” said GNTO.
Air connectivity has strongly fueled this growth. For instance, airlines increased the number of flights between India and Germany by 26 per cent in 2024 compared to 2019, signaling a robust market recovery.
Consequently, this positive trend continues into 2025, with a 5.5 per cent rise in arrivals from January to July compared to the same period in 2024. Romit Theophilus, Director, Marketing and Sales Office – India, GNTO, said, “India is clearly a crucial market for Destination Germany. The year-on-year growth and recovery pace are extremely encouraging.”
He added, “Germany’s blend of historic cities, breathtaking nature, and vibrant culture is attracting Indian travellers. Furthermore, the financial impact of this growth is substantial, and we will continue deepening our engagement with this market.”
GNTO reported that Indian tourism generated a total turnover of 1.1 billion Euros in 2024. In addition, the average expenditure per trip from India reached 3,068 Euros, highlighting the high value of this market.
GNTO will launch new campaigns to captivate Indian travellers further. Specifically, these initiatives will promote Germany’s diverse offerings beyond the well-known tourist trails.
One campaign will feature prominent Indian celebrities travelling through Germany to showcase its hidden treasures and iconic sights, as GNTO highlighted.
