New Delhi : India’s unemployment rate has fallen to 2 per cent, making it the lowest among G20 nations, Union Labour & Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Monday. He cited the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025 to underline that India’s rapid economic growth, along with enabling government schemes, has boosted employment generation across sectors.
The minister made the remarks during an event in New Delhi for the signing of an MoU between the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Mentor Together and Quikr to strengthen employment opportunities and enhance youth employability through the National Career Service (NCS) Portal.
Mandaviya highlighted that the NCS platform is evolving into a one-stop solution for employment services, boasting nearly 52 lakh registered employers, 5.79 crore job seekers and over 7.22 crore vacancies mobilised. Presently, there are 44 lakh active vacancies on the portal.
“Over the past year, the Ministry has signed MoUs with 10 key organisations, including Amazon and Swiggy. These partnerships have mobilised nearly five lakh vacancies,” Mandaviya said.
Reiterating the government’s focus on youth employment, the minister recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced a ₹2 lakh crore package of five flagship schemes at the start of his third term. The package, aimed at skilling and job creation for 4.1 crore youth, includes the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY) with a ₹99,446 crore allocation to incentivise the creation of 3.5 crore jobs in two years, of which 1.92 crore will benefit first-time job seekers.
Under the new MoU, Mentor Together will provide personalised mentoring to two lakh youth in the first year, including one lakh from NCS and one lakh PM-VBRY entrants, with outreach extending to district and city levels. The initiative will connect young people, especially from underserved backgrounds, with guidance from over 24,000 trained professionals.
Meanwhile, the renewed partnership with Quikr will integrate 1,200 daily job listings from Quikr Jobs across 1,200 cities into the NCS portal. This integration is expected to expand real-time access to employment opportunities, particularly for rural and semi-urban youth.
Mandaviya stressed that these collaborations will not only enhance employability but also play a crucial role in achieving the government’s vision of a skilled, job-ready workforce to meet India’s growing economic aspirations.
