Mayurbhanj, Odisha : In a chilling incident, a man brutally murdered his wife and mother-in-law by smashing their heads with a stone and later buried their bodies in a lemon orchard. The incident took place in Nuagaon village under Kuliana police limits of Mayurbhanj district.
The deceased have been identified as Sonali Dalei and her mother Sumari Dalei. The accused, Debashish Patra, has been arrested by police following his confession.
According to reports, Debashish and his wife Sonali often had marital disputes, leading to her leaving their home and staying with her parents. On July 12, Sonali returned to Nuagaon with her mother to visit her husband’s house. Soon after, both women went missing.
After failed attempts to trace them, their family members lodged a missing complaint at Kuliana police station on July 25. Acting on suspicion, the family members began searching the village and noticed a freshly dug patch of soil in a nearby lemon orchard.
Debashish tried to flee when confronted but was caught by villagers. During police interrogation, he admitted to killing both women and burying their bodies in the orchard.
Following his confession, police reached the spot, exhumed the bodies, and arrested Debashish. A detailed investigation is underway.
