New Delhi: Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, called on citizens to embrace an active lifestyle through the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative from his home village Hanol in Palitana, Gujarat.
Launched in December 2024, the initiative has expanded to more than 46,000 locations nationwide, engaging over 8 lakh participants. Continuing its mission to promote a healthier, pollution-free India, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports organised a special edition of the cycling drive today in partnership with the National Cadet Corps across 5,000 locations. Over 3,000 Namo Fit India Clubs also took part.
Dr Mandaviya urged citizens to download the FIT India mobile app and use its carbon credit feature. “Cycling is a powerful tool to fight obesity and pollution. The app monitors distance, time, heart rate, and other health parameters. I encourage everyone to join the Fit India Sundays on Cycle movement,” he said.
In Delhi, over 1,200 cyclists rode around the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, participating in yoga, Zumba, meditation, and rope skipping sessions. Fencers Naziya Shaik and Beni Quebha pledged support, emphasizing the initiative’s role in raising awareness about obesity and air pollution across Tier 1, 2, and 3 cities.
Beni Quebha, a National Games medallist, said, “This is my first experience cycling with such a large crowd. It was inspiring to see people enjoying physical activities while learning the importance of an active lifestyle.”
Meanwhile, over 100 riders from the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) participated at Patiala Locomotive Works (PLW), promoting fitness among athletes and employees.
The Fit India Sundays on Cycle is organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), Raahgiri Foundation, My Bikes, and MY Bharat. The initiative runs simultaneously across State capitals, Union Territories, SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), and Khelo India Centres (KISCEs and KICs), encouraging citizens of all ages to adopt healthier lifestyles.
