New Delhi : Firms focus on employee training amid AI shift, doubling efforts to upskill mid and senior-level staff as artificial intelligence and generative AI reshape workplaces, a report said on Monday.
In FY25, companies increased training demand for mid-level employees to 35% from 15% in FY24, according to the report from global ed-tech company Great Learning.
The demand for senior-level training more than doubled year-on-year, signalling that firms are deliberately strengthening leadership pipelines and succession planning.
Great Learning prepared the report using surveys of Learning and Development (L&D) leaders and Business Unit (BU) heads at large firms with more than 10,000 employees.
Early-career training, which accounted for over 80% of the ed-tech company’s programs in FY24, declined in FY25 as macroeconomic caution slowed large-scale entry-level onboarding, especially in the technology sector.
However, training rebounded strongly in FY26, with thousands of early-career professionals trained in the first half of the year.
Companies focus heavily on high-demand capabilities like AI and generative AI to match fast-evolving market demands. Approximately 48% of organisations prioritising this domain come from the IT and IT-Enabled Services (IT/ITeS) sector, followed by 14% from Manufacturing and Supply Chain, and 10% each from Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) and Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals.
As AI and emerging technologies reshape work, enterprises prioritise internal talent development over traditional hiring, said Ritesh Malhotra, Enterprise Head at Great Learning.
Among organisations focusing on Data Science and Analytics, IT/ITeS leads with 47%, and BFSI accounts for 21%.
To boost employee retention and career progression, 26% of companies customise programs for specific roles, while 25% update training content to align with industry trends.
Additionally, 19% of companies prioritise certifications, and 13% allocate resources to external expert collaboration and regular skills-gap analyses, the report added.
