Rajgir, Bihar, : On the occasion of the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, joined a distinguished gathering of global and national hockey dignitaries to pay tribute ahead of India’s opening encounter at the Hero Asia Cup 2025 in Rajgir.
Among the attendees were FIH President Tayyab Ikram, Dr. Dilip Kumar Tirkey, President of Hockey India, Raveendran Sankaran, IPS, DG-cum-CEO BSSA, Bhola Nath Singh, Vice President Asian Hockey Federation & Secretary General of Hockey India, and Commander RK Srivastava, Director General, Hockey India.
The leaders remembered Major Dhyan Chand’s unmatched contribution to Indian hockey and his global legacy, describing him as a “timeless inspiration for every hockey player and sports enthusiast.”
CM Nitish Kumar emphasized Bihar’s commitment to promoting hockey and sports infrastructure, especially as the state prepares to host prestigious events like the Hero Asia Cup 2025.
FIH President Tayyab Ikram praised India’s role in global hockey and highlighted the importance of nurturing young talent in honor of Dhyan Chand’s legacy.
The tribute was followed by a cultural program celebrating India’s hockey history, symbolizing the unity of tradition and modern sporting excellence.
