Wedding Anniversary Plans Halted Midway as Tragic Accident Leaves Him with Severe Burns
Bhubaneswar : Renowned Odia film and theatre comedian Bhakta Prahlad Charan Pattnayak, popularly known as Hadu, sustained critical injuries after accidentally falling into a hot oil cauldron at his residence. The incident occurred around 8 PM on Saturday at his government quarters in Unit-1 while he was moving around the kitchen area during cooking.
According to family sources, Hadu slipped due to spilled oil near the stove and fell directly into the boiling oil vessel, suffering severe burns to his face and other parts of his body. Immediate rescue efforts were made and he was first rushed to Capital Hospital. However, due to the absence of a dedicated burn unit there, doctors referred him to a hospital in Cuttack. Owing to the distance, he was later admitted to SUM Hospital, where he is currently receiving intensive treatment in the Burn ICU.
Doctors have confirmed that nearly 28% of his body has been burnt, including injuries around his eyes, face, and scalp. Multiple stitches have been administered on the affected areas. His medical condition is further complicated due to existing issues like high blood pressure and diabetes. Doctors have estimated a recovery period of 8 to 10 days, depending on his response to treatment.
His son Akash Pattnayak and brother-in-law Alok Ray are by his side as he continues to receive care. Following the news, a stream of well-wishers, fans, colleagues from the Odia film industry, and close friends have visited the hospital to express their support and wish for his speedy recovery.
This tragic accident has cast a shadow over what was meant to be a joyous occasion Hadu was preparing to celebrate his 25th wedding anniversary this coming Wednesday. With the unfortunate turn of events, all celebration plans have been indefinitely postponed.
It’s worth mentioning that Hadu, an employee of the Cooperative Department, began his acting journey in 1995 with the Doordarshan-telecasted serial “Chhania.” Since then, he has been a beloved figure in the Odia entertainment scene, known for bringing laughter to countless households through his comic timing and endearing screen presence.
