New Delhi : The Union Minister of Coal and Mines, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, informed the Rajya Sabha that Coal Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have adopted several IT and digitalisation initiatives to improve efficiency, transparency, and safety in coal production and delivery.
Coal India Limited (CIL) has implemented multiple digital systems, including:
- Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) for 24×7 surveillance and operational monitoring.
- Operator Independent Truck Dispatch System for efficient coal transportation.
- e-MB and e-Billing Portal to digitize billing processes.
- Centralized Safety Information System (CSIS) to monitor safety initiatives.
- Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring System (CAAQMS).
- Digital Transformation initiatives (Digicoal) for data-driven decision-making.
- Employee Resource Planning (ERP) for workforce management.
- PM Gati-Shakti-National Master Plan to optimize transport routes.
- Khanan Prahari Mobile App & Coal Mines Surveillance & Management System (CMSMS) for reporting illegal mining by citizens.
Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has leveraged:
- SAP (ERP) modules since 2008.
- GPS/Vehicle Tracking System for coal transport monitoring.
- CCTV surveillance at strategic locations.
- Operator Independent Truck Dispatch System (OITDS) and limited drone usage.
NLC India Limited has deployed:
- Operator Independent Truck Dispatch System with Geo-fencing technology.
- Digital Logistic Management System (DLMS) for logistics and security management.
- 3D TLS with GNSS Receivers for precise volume measurements.
The Ministry of Coal has also launched the Khanan Prahari Mobile App and CMSMS web app, enabling citizens to report coal theft or illegal mining, facilitating timely action by authorities.
These initiatives collectively enhance real-time monitoring, operational efficiency, safety compliance, and data-driven decision-making in India’s coal sector. According to the Minister, IT adoption in coal PSUs ensures better management of resources while maintaining environmental and safety standards.
