Bhubaneswar, Odisha : Odisha Chief Secretary Mr. Manoj Ahuja reviewed the ongoing Mukhyamantri Kamdhenu Yojana, emphasizing effective execution and ways farmers and dairy entrepreneurs can maximize benefits. The meeting, held at Lokseva Bhawan on Wednesday, included senior officials from the Fisheries and Animal Resources Department, including Principal Secretary Mr. Suresh Kumar Basishtha.
Mr. Ahuja discussed strategies to help livestock farmers and agri-entrepreneurs derive maximum profit while strengthening their financial position. He stressed that efficient implementation will boost daily milk production and enhance farmers’ incomes across the state.
The Chief Minister launched the scheme in September last year with a five-year investment target of ₹1,423.47 crore. The initiative aims to increase daily milk production from 65 lakh liters to 130 lakh liters and provides farmers with high-yielding cattle breeds, balanced nutrition, insurance, and financial incentives.
The scheme includes three sub-programs: Go-Palna Yojana, Buffalo Entrepreneurship Development Program, and Commercial Dairy Farming, with extra subsidies for eligible beneficiaries. Odisha also procures cattle from other states under the scheme to strengthen local dairy production.
In FY 2024-25, beneficiaries submitted 3,594 applications against a target of 2,500, and officials approved 2,892 applications, completing 1,727 projects with ₹24.5 crore in subsidies. In FY 2025-26, officials have received 23,929 applications against a 10,000-beneficiary target, approving 5,385 so far and disbursing ₹8.36 crore in subsidies.
The Go-Palna program distributed 4,532 cattle, adding 45,000 liters to daily milk production. Similarly, 1,260 buffaloes under the industrial development scheme now produce 10,080 liters daily. The commercial dairy program approved 626 applications in FY 2024-25 and 144 in FY 2025-26, supporting 5,008 and 1,152 animals respectively.
Officials focus on proper feed, nutrition, and insurance to ensure farmers gain maximum benefit. Experts from Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) evaluated performance and provided key recommendations.
Mr. Ahuja reiterated that the scheme’s effective execution will empower farmers, increase incomes, and strengthen Odisha’s dairy and livestock sector for sustainable growth.
