Mumbai, 18 June 2025: The Chennai Bulls maintained their undefeated record in Season 1 of the GMR RPL with a dramatic 26-26 draw against the Kalinga Black Tigers, in what proved to be a thrilling contest at the Shahaji Raje Bhosale Sports Complex (Andheri Sports Complex) in Mumbai on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Delhi Redz registered their first win of the tournament, overpowering the Mumbai Dreamers 20-7 in the day’s second encounter.

In the opening match, the Kalinga Black Tigers got off to a flying start as Perry Baker touched down for the first try, followed by a successful conversion by Maurice Longbottom. The Chennai Bulls responded with Joaquin Pellandini scoring and converting to draw level.

The Tigers surged ahead before halftime, with Kyle Tremblay and James Thiel scoring a try each. Longbottom added another conversion to extend the lead. However, a crucial try from Aryan Dixit just before the break kept the Bulls in contention, trailing by seven points at halftime.

The second half began with renewed intensity from the Bulls. Filipe Sauturaga scored a try and successfully converted to bring the scores level. In the final quarter, the Tigers once again pulled ahead with a try from Ajay Deswal and another conversion from Longbottom.

Just when the Black Tigers appeared poised for their first win of the season, Vaafauese Maliko came to the Bulls’ rescue with a try, and Pellandini converted from a wide angle to seal a thrilling draw.

In the second match of the day, the Delhi Redz came from behind to defeat the Mumbai Dreamers, who are still seeking their first win. The Dreamers had a promising start with James Turner scoring a try and Akash Balmiki adding the conversion to give the home side a first-half lead.

However, Delhi Redz came out firing in the second half. Alejandro Laforga crossed the line first, followed by two tries from Jordan Conroy. Deepak Punia capped off the comeback with a successful conversion and a late drop kick, securing a commanding 20-7 win for the Redz.

With this result, the Chennai Bulls retain their position at the top of the points table, while Delhi Redz gain vital momentum in the race for playoff spots.
