New Delhi : Chairman of the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI), Mahantesh G. Kivadasannavar, met Hon’ble President of India, Droupadi Murmu, in the capital. He briefed her about the first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup – Cricket for the Blind, scheduled from November 11 to 25 later this year.
Former Member of Parliament and ex-Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture, Meenakashi Lekhi, also attended the meeting. She serves as chairperson of the Organising Committee for the tournament.
India and Sri Lanka will co-host the Women’s T20 World Cup – Cricket for the Blind. Venues in New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Colombo will witness this historic, first-of-its-kind event. Teams from Australia, England, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the USA will participate. The tournament will feature 21 league matches, two semi-finals, and a thrilling final.
After his meeting, Mahantesh G. Kivadasannavar expressed his joy: “It was a privilege to meet the Hon’ble President and present details of this landmark event. The World Cup celebrates inclusion, courage, and the sporting spirit of visually impaired women cricketers across the globe.”
Meenakashi Lekhi praised the President’s support, stating, “The Hon’ble President is an inspiration to all women. Specially-abled men and women remain deeply grateful for her encouragement throughout this journey.”
Organisers confirmed earlier this week that Colombo will host the summit clash if Pakistan qualifies for the final.
This global tournament builds on India’s golden triumph in 2023, when the Indian Women’s Blind Cricket Team defeated Australia in the IBSA World Games final to clinch gold. That historic win scripted a new chapter in women’s blind cricket.
Now, with the world watching, the Indian women’s team stands ready to defend their pride, play fearless cricket, and add another glorious chapter on home soil.
