Bhubaneswar , Odisha : BJP leaders in Nuapada are making a strong push as the Assembly by-election draws closer. The constituency has now turned into the state’s most watched battleground. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aims to capture this seat at any cost. From the Chief Minister himself to senior cabinet ministers, every heavyweight now visits Nuapada. Clearly, the party signals that it will leave no stone unturned in its strategy. For the BJP, this election is not just about one seat; rather, it strengthens its presence in western Odisha. Moreover, the party views Nuapada as the gateway to expand its influence in the region.
Meanwhile, BJP State President Manmohan Samal has already camped in Nuapada. He holds back-to-back meetings with district leaders and booth-level workers. Additionally, the Chief Minister, Mohan Majhi, has visited the constituency twice in the last month. Cabinet ministers also take turns campaigning in the villages and panchayats. Furthermore, BJP’s core team has prepared a special strategy for Nuapada — to energize the local cadre with continuous leadership presence and to highlight the state government’s welfare schemes as the main campaign plank. The team also plans to aggressively counter the opposition’s criticism with quick rebuttals.
Importantly, the welfare schemes of the new BJP government form the centerpiece of the campaign. The Chief Minister personally promises to extend benefits of housing, pensions, and farmer subsidies. In addition, ministers ensure that delivery of schemes in Nuapada gets top priority. Several development announcements line up ahead of the poll notification. As a result, BJP leaders believe that this “double engine” narrative will appeal strongly to rural voters.
Furthermore, Nuapada’s unique demography makes the battle even more interesting. BJP strategists carefully tailor their message for each group. For farmers, the focus stays on irrigation and crop support. For youth, the emphasis lies on skill development and recruitment drives. For women, schemes related to health, cooking gas, and SHG loans dominate the pitch. Besides, party leaders hold street-corner meetings to connect at the grassroots level.
At present, voter sentiment in Nuapada remains mixed. Nevertheless, political observers call Nuapada a litmus test for the new BJP government. In fact, the BJP’s digital cell rolls out constituency-specific content, and consequently, the digital push complements the ground-level campaign.
