Adelaide : Ahead of the AUS vs IND 2nd ODI at the Adelaide Oval, Team India stars Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and skipper Shubman Gill skipped the optional training session on Wednesday. Their absence drew attention as hundreds of fans turned up to watch India’s top guns prepare before the crucial clash against Australia.
Rohit Sharma was the only senior batter to hit the nets. The veteran opener batted for about 20 minutes, facing throwdowns and working on his timing with short, controlled strokes.
Kohli, Gill, and Iyer, who all struggled in the first ODI in Perth, chose to rest. Kohli fell for a duck, Gill managed just 10 runs from 18 balls, and Iyer scored 11 from 24 deliveries before Josh Hazlewood dismissed him.
KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel trained actively in the nets, with Rahul also practising wicketkeeping drills.
The team focused mainly on bowling during the session. Pace coach Morne Morkel held an in-depth discussion with Mohammed Siraj about seam position and delivery rhythm. Siraj and Prasidh Krishna honed their accuracy with markers placed at the good-length area.
Debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy, who impressed with the bat in Perth, shifted his focus to bowling. Kuldeep Yadav continued his spin practice, while Yashasvi Jaiswal bowled a few deliveries, suggesting that India might test more bowling options in the upcoming match.
With India trailing 0-1 in the three-match series, fans are eager to see whether Kohli, Gill, and Iyer can bounce back and help India level the series when they take on Australia in Adelaide on Thursday.
