New Delhi : Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya unveiled the mascot Jalveer and official logo for the 11th Asian Aquatics Championship, scheduled in Ahmedabad from September 28 to October 11. The event marks India’s debut as host of this continental championship and provides Indian athletes a rare opportunity to compete on home ground.
The championship will take place at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, constructed to Olympic specifications. Over 30 nations will participate across swimming, diving, water polo, and artistic swimming. Moreover, the event promotes aquatic sports nationally and offers Indian athletes exposure to top-level competition.
The logo blends sporting excellence with local identity. It features the Asiatic Lion, native to Gujarat, illustrated in a semi-realistic, stylised manner with vibrant colours symbolizing national pride and cultural vibrancy. Additionally, designers integrated dynamic icons for the four aquatic disciplines into the lion’s mane, conveying energy, motion, and inclusiveness. Bold typography emphasizes unity and prestige, therefore reflecting Ahmedabad’s capability as a host city.
Mandaviya praised the Swimming Federation of India (SFI) and the Government of Gujarat for their efforts. “This championship marks a historic milestone for Indian aquatics, giving our athletes the chance to showcase their talent against the finest in Asia,” he said.
SFI Secretary General Monal Chokshi highlighted the championship’s legacy, stating it will popularize aquatic sports, strengthen India’s athlete development pipeline, and cement Ahmedabad as a global sports destination. RN Jayaprakash added that the event gives home-ground advantage to Indian athletes as well as serving as a qualifying event for the 2026 Asian Games.
Furthermore, hosting the championship represents more than a sporting milestone—it demonstrates capability and ambition. With investments such as the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave and Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, Ahmedabad positions itself to host global events, including the 2030 Commonwealth Games and 2036 Olympics. In addition, the championship showcases organizational excellence, world-class infrastructure, and India’s growing influence in international aquatic sports.
