New Delhi : Apple iPhone 17 sales India are soaring as the iPhone 17 Air and 17 models gain stronger traction than last year’s Plus and 16 series devices, according to vendors and industry analysts.

The tech giant expects to achieve its highest festive-sales count in India, with analysts forecasting a 28 per cent year-on-year increase in 2025 thanks to the success of the iPhone 17 series. Apple recorded nearly $9 billion in annual sales last fiscal, driven by rising disposable incomes and strong consumer demand.

Analysts reported that the first week of iPhone 17 series sales exceeded iPhone 16 series sales by 19 per cent.

According to Tarun Pathak, Research Director at Counterpoint Research, Apple is capitalising on the premiumisation trend in India. “The new iPhone 17 Air, despite a higher price, is gaining stronger traction than last year’s Plus model,” Pathak said.

Apple plans to cross 4.5 million shipments this festive quarter, with the new iPhone Air poised to generate additional traction.

Prabhu Ram, VP of Industry Research Group (IRG), CMR, noted that a market dominated by value-for-money phones now shows healthy growth for premium smartphones, driven by rising disposable incomes among the expanding middle class.

“Apple’s growth momentum stems from its strong brand presence and increased manufacturing and retail focus in the Indian market,” he added.

The iPhone 17 (256 GB) starts at Rs 82,900, iPhone 17 Air (256 GB) at Rs 119,900, iPhone 17 Pro (256 GB) at Rs 134,900, and iPhone 17 Pro Max (256 GB) at Rs 149,900.

The iPhone Air features a breakthrough titanium design that is elegant, light, and strong. Apple equips the back with Ceramic Shield and the front cover with Ceramic Shield 2, improving scratch resistance threefold, making it the most durable iPhone to date.

iPhone Air also offers a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion up to 120Hz. The powerhouse A19 Pro, N1, and C1X chips make it the most power-efficient iPhone ever. Its 48MP Fusion Main camera delivers four-lens equivalent quality, while the 18MP Center Stage front camera enhances selfies.

iPhone 17 features the new Center Stage front camera, a 48MP Fusion Main camera with 2x Telephoto, and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera for detailed macro and expansive shots. Its 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion enables smooth scrolling, immersive gaming, and higher efficiency, powered by the A19 chip.

India now produces one in every five iPhones, making the country central to Apple’s global manufacturing plans.
