Bhubaneswar :Odisha is set to witness a major development push as Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits the state on June 20 to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for 105 projects worth ₹19,000 crore. This mega event underscores the Centre’s growing focus on Odisha’s infrastructure and welfare initiatives.
State BJP President Manmohan Samal confirmed the Prime Minister’s itinerary, noting that these projects span across sectors including rural development, women’s empowerment, infrastructure, education, and housing. The Prime Minister’s visit comes ahead of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s scheduled arrival on July 9.
Massive Reception Planned
The Prime Minister will begin his visit by participating in the Tricolor Sobha Yatra, commencing from the Biju Patnaik International Airport to Janata Maidan. A massive roadshow is also planned en route, with an estimated 2 lakh people expected to line the streets to greet him.
During the event, PM Modi will distribute Vayabandana cards to senior citizens and issue work orders for over 50,000 houses under the Antardaya Griha Yojana, aimed at uplifting the poorest of the poor. Security Tightened, Schools Declared Holiday in Twin city
In anticipation of the large crowds and the state-level event marking one year of the new government, all government, government-aided, and private schools in the Bhubaneswar and Cuttack Municipal Corporation areas will remain closed on Friday, June 20. This decision comes even as the statewide summer vacation concludes on June 19, with schools elsewhere reopening on the 20th along with mid-day meal provisions from pre-primary to Class X.
High Political Activity in Odisha
Odisha has recently become the epicenter of national political activity. Top central leaders have been frequenting the state, addressing regional issues and engaging with the public. PM Modi’s latest visit follows several pre-election trips and his presence at the swearing-in of the newly formed BJP government.
On the other hand, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is expected to visit Odisha on July 9, where he may raise issues related to women’s safety, education, and healthcare, potentially targeting the state and central governments on those fronts.
The Prime Minister’s visit marks a pivotal moment in Odisha’s political and developmental trajectory, signaling the Centre’s reinforced commitment to transforming the state into a model of inclusive growth.
