Bhubaneswar, Odisha : World Obesity Day Odisha awareness program was observed at the Mathematics and Applied Research Institute, Andharua, under the auspices of the Odisha Science Academy. The event aimed to raise awareness about the increasing prevalence of obesity and its adverse effects on health. Experts, including Dr. Chittaranjan Mishra, addressed participants on scientific insights into rising obesity levels, preventive measures, and the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles. The program also emphasized educating the younger generation and the community at large to mitigate future health risks.
The program was attended by Additional Secretary of Science and Technology Department, Ms. Shivani Mahanti, Ms. Bidyut Prabha Raut, Director of the Mathematics and Applied Sciences Institute Professor Yashobanta Jena, and Registrar Professor Trilokya Panigrahi, who stressed the importance of environmental protection and green campus initiatives.
In line with the event, the institute organized tree plantation drives, including medicinal and diverse tree species, within its campus. Teachers, students, and staff actively participated in the program, reinforcing the link between greenery, health, and environmental sustainability.
The event highlighted the need for increased awareness among the younger generation regarding obesity, environmental care, and healthier lifestyle practices.
