Bhubaneswar , Odisha : Carrying forward the vision of “Samruddha Odisha, Bikashita Odisha”, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today launched the Zero Accident Day (ZAD) campaign in Keonjhar. The event was organised by the Commerce and Transport Department to promote road safety and reduce accidents across the state.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister called upon people to make Odisha an accident-free state, stressing that safety is a collective responsibility, not just the government’s duty.
On the occasion, CM Majhi inaugurated the Zero Accident Selfie Point and felicitated road safety ambassadors. He also flagged off Zero Accident Awareness Rathas in all 13 blocks of Keonjhar district and launched a signature campaign for public participation.
“Safety is everyone’s responsibility. We must be alert, follow traffic rules, and also spread awareness among others. Only collective vigilance can prevent accidents,” Majhi said.
Highlighting Keonjhar’s unique challenges, the CM noted that the district is a mineral-rich hub, with thousands of trucks, loaders, and heavy vehicles moving daily. While vital for the economy, this poses higher road safety risks. He urged drivers, companies, and citizens to strictly follow safety norms, maintain vehicles regularly, and prioritise training.
The CM emphasized that the Zero Accident Day is not just an event but a movement of shared responsibility. He appealed to industries, drivers, and transport workers to make safety their top priority, underlining that strict compliance could significantly reduce accidents.
Keonjhar becomes the first district in Odisha to extend the Zero Accident campaign after its successful launch in Bhubaneswar. A special 14-day programme is being conducted in collaboration with IIT Madras, which will provide expert guidance on accident prevention.
Several dignitaries joined the launch, including Rajya Sabha MP Sujit Kumar, Keonjhar MP Ananta Nayak, local MLAs, DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, STA Commissioner Amitabh Thakur, DIG Brijesh Ray, and Collector Vishal Singh.
The CM concluded by reiterating that the campaign’s ultimate goal is to take the Zero Accident message to every city, village, and household in Odisha, ensuring that awareness translates into action.
