Mumbai: Actress Yami Gautam, promoting her upcoming film Haq, shared her spiritual view on creativity, saying that while humans create art, it is ultimately God who enables it. Yami Gautam says God is the enabler of art.
Speaking to IANS during a promotional event in Juhu, Mumbai, Yami said, “We are all creations of a higher power. If we realise our true strength, we can transform this world. Each one of us has a purpose and a unique art form whether painting, writing, or performing all of it flows through us from the divine.”
She added, “Art is sacred. When I write or perform, I feel like an instrument of something greater. God expresses Himself through us we’re just the medium through which art flows.”
Yami’s film Haq draws inspiration from the historic Shah Bano case, a turning point in India’s legal and social discourse. The 62-year-old Shah Bano sought maintenance from her husband after divorce through triple talaq, and the Supreme Court ruled in her favor under Section 125 CrPC, stating that maintenance applied to all citizens regardless of religion.
However, political and religious backlash led to the 1986 Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Divorce) Act, overturning the verdict and reigniting debates on women’s rights, secularism, and the uniform civil code.
With Haq, Yami brings a powerful story that revisits these themes, blending art with social consciousness a reflection of her belief that divine inspiration shapes human expression.
