Bhubaneswar, Odisha :Twenty-four meritorious students from the World Skill Center (WSC), Bhubaneswar, returned to Odisha on Sunday after completing a prestigious six-month paid internship in Singapore. The students received a warm welcome from WSC officials at the Biju Patnaik International Airport after arriving on a direct flight.

The international internship is the flagship initiative of WSC, established under the Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA) to provide global exposure and industry-ready training to youth. Each year, 24 top-performing students from the School of Engineering are selected through a rigorous evaluation process and placed in reputed international companies in Singapore for hands-on experience.

This year’s group, part of the 2024–25 batch, began their journey in March. Over six months, they gained advanced knowledge in Electrical Technology, Mechanical and Electrical Services, Mechatronics, and modern engineering practices, working alongside global industry leaders.

Principal T. Thambyrajah and Director of the School of Engineering Pitchian Anthonysamy personally greeted the students at the airport. Both congratulated the cohort for their discipline, dedication, and performance, and urged them to use their global experience to build stronger careers back home and abroad.

Among the students, Saswati Panda from Bhubaneswar trained at YTL PowerSeraya, one of Singapore’s top energy firms. She described her internship as “transformative,” adding that it sharpened her troubleshooting and maintenance skills while exposing her to safety protocols and teamwork in a multicultural setting. “This opportunity boosted my confidence and prepared me to contribute meaningfully to the energy sector,” she said.

Another student, Rajkishore Ray from Nabarangpur, interned at Four Seasons Hotel Singapore under the Mechanical and Electrical Services program. He said the internship deepened his passion for sustainable engineering solutions. His dedication earned him an overseas placement, and he will soon join Four Seasons Maldives to begin his professional career.

The students agreed that the global training broadened their perspectives and strengthened their employability. They returned with renewed confidence, ready to contribute to Odisha’s growing technical landscape.

Established in the Mancheswar Industrial Area, WSC is Odisha’s premier skill development hub. The institute provides international-standard training in engineering and technical trades, aiming to create a globally competitive workforce. Since its inception, the World Skill Center has served as a bridge between Odisha’s talent pool and global opportunities, reaffirming the state’s commitment to youth empowerment.

The return of this batch marks another milestone in Odisha’s mission to transform its students into world-class professionals through exposure, innovation, and global collaboration.
