Bhubaneswar, Odisha : Bhubaneswar recently hosted a special event to promote women empowerment through cinema. As part of the Women Empowerment Awareness Cinema Odisha program, the award-winning Hindi film “Lapata Ladies” was shown. The film highlighted women’s courage, challenges, and journey toward self-reliance.

The event at Lokseva Bhavan saw 450 government staff and officials in attendance, including Principal Secretary Shubha Sharma and other Odisha Secretariat representatives. Attendees actively discussed the film’s message and explored ways to support gender equality. They focused on empowering women in both personal and professional life.

“Cinema reflects society. Films like ‘Lapata Ladies’ inspire awareness and action,” said one official,

“It is a creative way to start important conversations on women empowerment and gender sensitivity.” The session also focused on simple steps to create safer and fairer communities for women across Odisha.

This screening is part of a monthly series, with similar films shown every third Saturday. By mixing entertainment with learning, the program keeps the topic of gender equality alive. It encourages attendees to apply lessons in daily life.

The audience praised the film for its powerful story and real-life relevance. The event showed how movies can influence social change, making ideas like empowerment easy to understand and act on.

Through initiatives like Women Empowerment Awareness Cinema Odisha, Odisha is showing that stories can inspire change and encourage empathy. These initiatives push society toward equality. Programs like this make awareness practical, not just theoretical, helping women thrive in workplaces and communities.

The screening of “Lapata Ladies” is more than a film it is a movement. It sparks dialogue, reflection, and action for a stronger and more equal Odisha.
