Jharsuguda, Odisha : Vedanta Aluminium sapling drive has commenced in Jharsuguda, planting 2 lakh trees under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0 initiative. Hundreds of community members, government representatives, and employee volunteers joined the effort to strengthen the district’s green cover and promote environmental sustainability.

The Ek Ped Maa campaign, launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on World Environment Day 2024, aims to expand India’s green cover, promote sustainable lifestyles, and tackle climate change. The campaign encourages citizens to dedicate trees to their mothers, symbolizing care for both life and nature.

Community members, Vedanta Aluminium employees, and school students actively participated in the initiative, which seeks to enhance Jharsuguda’s green cover and promote biodiversity. Last year, the company planted 1 lakh native saplings under the first edition of the initiative.

The inauguration took place at H. Katapali in Jharsuguda, with several state and district officials in attendance, including Shri Pradeep Purohit, MP – Bargarh; Shri Suresh Pujari, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Government of Odisha; Shri Tankadhar Tripathy, MLA – Jharsuguda; Shri Chavan Kunal Motiram, District Collector – Jharsuguda; and Shri Gundala Reddy Raghavendra, Superintendent of Police, Jharsuguda. Vedanta Aluminium planted nearly 2,000 saplings near its operations in Jamkhani and Sijimali during the event.

Shri C. Chandru, CEO – Vedanta Jharsuguda, stated, “At Vedanta Aluminium, environmental stewardship guides our operations. By targeting 2 lakh saplings under Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0, we aim to foster ecological balance and strengthen community partnerships. We are proud to collaborate with the district administration in this mission.”

Shri Pradeep Purohit, MP, Bargarh, added, “Vedanta not only plants trees but also ensures their care. The company’s contribution inspires citizens to join this noble effort.”

Shri Suresh Pujari, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Odisha, remarked, “The Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0 campaign encourages a sustainable mindset. I commend Vedanta Aluminium for supporting this important initiative, demonstrating our collective commitment to environmental conservation and regional development.”

Shri Tankadhar Tripathy, MLA – Jharsuguda, praised Vedanta’s efforts, noting, “This initiative adds significantly to Jharsuguda’s green cover. Most of the saplings planted last year remain healthy, reflecting Vedanta’s consistent commitment to the district’s development.”

Vedanta Aluminium continues to drive grassroots development, positively impacting local communities while promoting sustainability. The company has also established a Butterfly Park and preserved vulnerable tree species such as Chroxylon Swietenia.

A business of Vedanta Limited, Vedanta Aluminium produces over half of India’s aluminium, totaling 2.42 million tonnes in FY25. The company leads in value-added aluminium products for critical industries and ranked 2nd in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2024 for the aluminium sector, highlighting its sustainable development practices. With its world-class smelters, alumina refinery, and power plants, Vedanta Aluminium drives the adoption of aluminium as the ‘Metal of the Future’ for a greener tomorrow.
