Jharsuguda, Odisha : Vedanta Aluminium sapling drive has commenced in Jharsuguda, planting 2 lakh trees under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0 initiative. Hundreds of community members, government representatives, and employee volunteers joined the effort to strengthen the district’s green cover and promote environmental sustainability.
The Ek Ped Maa campaign, launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on World Environment Day 2024, aims to expand India’s green cover, promote sustainable lifestyles, and tackle climate change. The campaign encourages citizens to dedicate trees to their mothers, symbolizing care for both life and nature.
Community members, Vedanta Aluminium employees, and school students actively participated in the initiative, which seeks to enhance Jharsuguda’s green cover and promote biodiversity. Last year, the company planted 1 lakh native saplings under the first edition of the initiative.
The inauguration took place at H. Katapali in Jharsuguda, with several state and district officials in attendance, including Shri Pradeep Purohit, MP – Bargarh; Shri Suresh Pujari, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Government of Odisha; Shri Tankadhar Tripathy, MLA – Jharsuguda; Shri Chavan Kunal Motiram, District Collector – Jharsuguda; and Shri Gundala Reddy Raghavendra, Superintendent of Police, Jharsuguda. Vedanta Aluminium planted nearly 2,000 saplings near its operations in Jamkhani and Sijimali during the event.

Shri Pradeep Purohit, MP, Bargarh, added, “Vedanta not only plants trees but also ensures their care. The company’s contribution inspires citizens to join this noble effort.”
Shri Suresh Pujari, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Odisha, remarked, “The Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0 campaign encourages a sustainable mindset. Shri Tankadhar Tripathy, MLA – Jharsuguda, praised Vedanta’s efforts, noting, “This initiative adds significantly to Jharsuguda’s green cover. Most of the saplings planted last year remain healthy, reflecting Vedanta’s consistent commitment to the district’s development.”
