Mumbai : Bollywood actress Urmila Matondkar recalled her first meeting with National Award-winner Shabana Azmi during the 1983 photo shoot for their classic film Masoom.
Urmila wished Shabana a happy 75th birthday on Instagram and shared several images from the film. Masoom is an adaptation of the 1980 Erich Segal novel Man, Woman and Child, and marked Urmila’s debut as a child actor.
She wrote, “Year 1983… location Janki Kutir. Tiny, anxious, and nervous me saw the great Shabana Azmi for the Masoom photo shoot. Thereafter, it has been an exceptional bond of love, respect, learning, laughter, and so much more.”
Urmila added, “I could thank you for many things, but above all, for constantly reminding me how to live life to the fullest with everything it throws at you! Thank you for inspiring me tremendously on screen and for your generosity and warmth. I deeply cherish your presence in my life.”
Calling Shabana a queen, she wrote: “Happy Birthday Queen 75 never rocked more than this @azmishabana18.”
Masoom marked Shekhar Kapur’s directorial debut. The film stars Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah, Jugal Hansraj, and Saeed Jaffrey, with Tanuja and Supriya Pathak in special appearances. The story follows Devendra Kumar, whose family life is disrupted when he discovers he has an illegitimate child from a past affair. His wife, Indu, struggles to accept the child.
Talking about Urmila, her 1995 blockbuster Rangeela is set to return on the big screen to celebrate three decades in Hindi cinema.
As part of Ultra Media’s Ultra Rewind initiative, the restored release aims to delight longtime fans and introduce new audiences to its timeless charm.
Rangeela revolves around Mili, who dreams of becoming a famous actor. She faces hurdles as Raj Kamal, a noted actor, and Munna, her childhood friend, fall in love with her. The film also stars Aamir Khan and Jackie Shroff.
