New Delhi : Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna on Wednesday announced heightened security in seven districts bordering Nepal following political unrest in the neighbouring country. The situation escalated after Gen Z-led protests forced Nepal’s Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli to resign.

Speaking to reporters in Lucknow, the DGP said, “Alerts have been issued in all seven districts bordering Nepal. We have reinforced Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) border outposts, local police stations, and check posts. Civil police deployment has increased to prevent any negative spillover. Transit points are monitored, and officers are keeping a strict watch.”

He added that communication channels have been set up for stranded Indian nationals. “Three landline numbers and one WhatsApp contact have been issued. We are assisting Indians in Nepal who wish to return safely. On the Chief Minister’s instructions, police presence has been strengthened, and border mobility has been restricted. Further measures will be taken based on the evolving situation,” he said.

The DGP confirmed that coordination with central forces and Nepalese authorities is ongoing. “I spoke to the Director General of SSB yesterday, and a meeting was held at the Ministry of Home Affairs with senior officials. We are maintaining constant contact with Nepal’s security agencies to ensure no security breach occurs,” he said.

Heightened vigilance follows a series of incidents in Nepal, including the escape of inmates from a local jail, which sparked unrest across the Himalayan nation. Authorities have issued a high alert on the Indo-Nepal border.

On Wednesday, the SSB apprehended five of the escaped prisoners from the Siddharth Nagar sector. They are now in custody and are being interrogated jointly by SSB, local police, and other agencies.
