Ganjam, Odisha: In a major step towards addressing water needs in coastal Odisha, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today inaugurated a state-of-the-art desalination plant at IREL, Ganjam.
The facility, designed to remove salt from seawater and produce fresh, mineral-rich drinking water, has a total capacity of 5 MLD. Of this, 4.5 MLD will be processed daily, converting saline water into potable water. Around 1.5 MLD of this output will be supplied to Aryapalli and Matikhala villages, directly benefiting over 2,000 residents.
Built at a cost of ₹4.20 crore by IREL, the plant promises water that is not only fresh but also higher in essential minerals compared to regular drinking water.
The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of Brahmapur and Asika MPs along with several MLAs from the district, marking the project as a collective stride towards sustainable water solutions in the region.
