Sambalpur : A tragic incident occurred at the popular Deojharan waterfall in Sambalpur district on Saturday afternoon, where two students from Vimsar Medical College, Burla, drowned while bathing.

Local residents immediately initiated a search but were unable to locate the missing students. The Jujomura police and fire brigade were informed, following which rescue operations were launched. Both students were eventually pulled out of the water and rushed to the Jujomura Primary Health Centre. Unfortunately, doctors declared them dead on arrival.
The deceased have been identified as:
Sandeep Puri (24), son of Sunil Puri, a resident of Nandaloi area, Najafgarh, Delhi. Monica Meena (24), daughter of Chetan Meena, hailing from the Mount Abu police station area in Rajasthan.
Police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, Vimsar Medical College Superintendent Dr. Lal Mohan Naik and Dean Dr. Pradeep Mohanty rushed to the site to assess the situation and extend support to the bereaved students and families.
The tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom over the medical college community. Further inquiries are ongoing.
