Puri : In a major security lapse, two accused persons escaped from Gop Police Station in Puri district late last night by breaking the skylight of a toilet under the pretext of answering nature’s call. The escape has raised serious questions about the vigilance and preparedness of the local police.
The accused were reportedly detained by Gop Police in connection with a theft case and were being interrogated. However, taking advantage of a momentary lapse in attention, the duo managed to flee the lock-up by climbing through the broken skylight of the toilet.
Despite immediate action by police teams, the fugitives remain at large. Two special police squads have been formed and are conducting search operations across multiple locations, but no concrete leads have emerged as of now.
The incident has triggered public concern and internal scrutiny, with questions being raised over how suspects could so easily evade custody from within the police station premises.
