Russia : Russia has been rattled by another powerful earthquake, registering 6.0 magnitude on the Richter scale, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The quake struck late last night, located about 267 km southeast of Severo-Kurilsk.
This comes just days after a massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake hit Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula on July 30, one of the top ten strongest quakes ever recorded globally. That event triggered tsunami warnings across coastal areas of the Pacific Ocean, placing Japan, the United States, and Chile on high alert.
Following the Kamchatka disaster, aftershocks have been frequent. Another 6.0 magnitude quake was recorded near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, about 108 km from the city. The series of tremors has heightened seismic concerns across the region.
