Washington: The Trump White House Ballroom project is underway as crews start construction in the historic East Wing. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the project ensures the People’s House continues serving Americans and future presidents.
Leavitt wrote on X that the new ballroom is a “beautiful and much-needed addition” to the Executive Mansion. Dramatic photos show construction crews tearing into the East Wing, leaving old windows and walls in tatters—a sign of bold changes ahead.
Although the National Capital Planning Commission has not yet approved the project, the White House pressed forward. Trump referenced the Trump White House Ballroom project construction while hosting 2025 college baseball champs LSU-Shreveport, joking,
“We have a lot of construction going on, which you might hear periodically. It just started today, right behind us.”
The East Wing, built in 1902, houses the offices of the First Lady. Workers will temporarily relocate those offices while crews modernize the building. Leavitt confirmed that the team will upgrade the wing without tearing it down, adding a massive 90,000-square-foot, glass-walled ballroom.
Trump stressed that Presidents have long desired such a space to host world leaders without relying on the South Lawn.
He added that the ballroom will receive private funding—“with zero cost to the American taxpayer.”
When finished, the ballroom will become the largest structural addition to the White House since the Truman Balcony in 1948, even dwarfing parts of the residence. The White House plans to disclose donors soon, and construction will wrap up before Trump’s term ends in January 2029.
This ambitious project already sparks nationwide conversation about the People’s House, blending tradition with a bold new vision under Trump’s leadership.
