New Delhi : Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday backed former US President Donald Trump’s recent remarks about India’s economic condition, calling them “completely true.”
Trump, in a post on his social media platform Truth Social, had written:
“I don’t care what India does with Russia. They are destroying their dead economy together. It means nothing to me.”
He also added, “We do very little trade with India. Their tariffs are extremely high – the highest in the world.”
Responding to this, Rahul Gandhi told reporters:
“Yes, he is right. Everyone except the Prime Minister and Finance Minister knows that India’s economy is dead. The whole world knows it. I’m glad President Trump has brought this truth to the surface.”
Taking a direct hit at the ruling BJP government, Gandhi accused them of crippling the Indian economy for the benefit of business tycoon Gautam Adani, saying:
“BJP has destroyed the economy just to help Adani. This is no secret anymore.”
Rahul Gandhi’s remarks come amid growing concerns about India’s economic performance, foreign trade tensions, and rising criticism over unemployment and inflation. His endorsement of Trump’s controversial comment has sparked sharp reactions from BJP leaders and economists alike.
