Washington : US President Donald Trump announced that he has canceled his planned meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump cancels meeting with Putin due to stalled negotiations and frustration with ongoing diplomatic efforts.

According to Trump, “We canceled the meeting with President Putin. It just didn’t feel right to me. It didn’t feel like we were going to get to the place we have to get. So I canceled it, but we’ll do it in the future.”

Initially, Trump had planned to meet Putin in Budapest following a phone call last week. However, he later described the meeting as “a waste of time” because of the lack of tangible progress. Trump cancels meeting with Putin, expressing frustration over repeated conversations that “don’t go anywhere.” He emphasized the need to reach a deal to end the conflict in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the White House unveiled new sanctions targeting Russian oil exports. They focused on Rosneft and Lukoil, the country’s two largest oil companies. Trump said he hopes the measures will be temporary. Furthermore, he stressed his desire for the war to end quickly and efficiently.

Earlier, Trump hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House. He called the meeting “very interesting and cordial” and urged both sides to “stop the killing and make a deal.” In addition, Trump cancels meeting with Putin followed by a phone call between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

After mediating a ceasefire in Gaza, Trump has now focused on the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Consequently, he aims to combine diplomacy and sanctions to push for resolution. His previous summit with Putin in Alaska ended without an agreement.

Overall, the decision to cancel highlights ongoing tensions in US-Russia relations. It signals Trump’s cautious approach toward direct talks amid global uncertainty. Analysts suggest the move reflects the strategy involved when Trump cancels meeting with Putin while leveraging sanctions and keeping future negotiations on the table.
