Washington : The Trump administration plans to deport the alleged murderer of Indian national Chandra Nagamallaiah in Texas, just two days after the brutal decapitation shocked the local community. The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has already initiated removal proceedings against the accused, Yordanis Cobos-Martinez.
In its statement, DHS detailed the criminal record of Yordanis Cobos-Martinez. Dallas Police arrested him on September 10 at a local motel for capital murder. His criminal history includes child sex abuse, grand theft auto, false imprisonment, and carjacking.
Police said Martinez attacked 41-year-old Nagamallaiah with a machete at a Dallas motel, decapitating him in front of his wife and child. Witnesses reported that Martinez kicked the severed head “like a soccer ball” before dumping it in a trash bin.
The attack began after Nagamallaiah asked Martinez not to use a broken washing machine. Martinez grew enraged when the victim relayed the request through a translator instead of speaking directly to him. A viral video on social media shows Martinez chasing and killing the victim.
ICE lodged a detainer against Martinez, who now remains in Dallas County Jail. DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughli blamed the Biden administration for releasing Martinez from custody in January 2025 under an Order of Supervision after Cuba refused to repatriate him.
“This gruesome, savage slaying was preventable. This criminal illegal alien should never have been released into our country,” McLaughli said.
California Democrat Ro Khanna also condemned the killing. “The brutal beheading of a hardworking Indian American immigrant in front of his wife and son is horrific. The murderer had multiple prior arrests and should not have walked free on American streets,” he wrote on X.
Authorities are now investigating how Martinez, despite his violent criminal history, managed to remain in the US and carry out one of the most shocking crimes in Texas this year.
