Ladakh : In a tragic incident in the rugged terrains of Ladakh, a massive rockfall struck an Indian Army vehicle near Durbuk, leading to the martyrdom of two soldiers, while three others sustained critical injuries. The mishap occurred at around 11:30 AM, amidst heavy rainfall that has battered the region over the past few days.
According to official sources, the vehicle was en route through a mountainous stretch when boulders dislodged due to incessant rain, crashing down on the vehicle. The injured personnel have been evacuated to the nearest military medical facility, and a rescue operation is still underway at the site.
The Indian Army and local administration have attributed the landslide to the persistent downpour and unstable terrain, which have significantly increased the risk of road-related accidents in the area.
In a separate incident on the same day, a bus carrying Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel fell into the Sindh River near Kullan in Ganderbal district, Jammu & Kashmir. The accident was reportedly caused by slippery roads and poor visibility due to relentless rainfall.
Search and rescue operations have been launched immediately, with local authorities, police, and disaster response teams working tirelessly to save the trapped jawans.
Both incidents highlight the growing challenges faced by security forces stationed in difficult terrains during the monsoon season. With rain-triggered landslides and flash floods on the rise, operational risks for troops have surged across the Himalayan belt.
