In a major anti-corruption operation, Odisha Vigilance officials apprehended Tusharkant Ray, Executive Engineer (Quality), Circle-I of TPCODL, Bhubaneswar, for allegedly accepting a Rs 20,000 bribe from an electrical contractor.
The bribe was reportedly demanded in exchange for issuing a final inspection report necessary for energising a newly installed transformer at a residential complex.
Sources reveal the contractor had been waiting over two months for the report, which was crucial for processing his payment. Frustrated by repeated delays and the alleged demand for money, he approached Vigilance authorities, who laid a trap.
Ray allegedly invited the contractor to his residence and later moved to a nearby park, where he accepted the cash. Vigilance officers, monitoring the exchange, swiftly intervened and recovered the tainted money.
Subsequent raids at three premises linked to Ray uncovered Rs 9.53 lakh in unaccounted cash.
A case has been registered under Bhubaneswar Vigilance P.S. Case No. 21 dated 24.09.2025, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation is ongoing.
