Bangkok: Thailand mourns the passing of Queen Mother Sirikit, who died peacefully at the age of 93 at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital. The Bureau of the Royal Household confirmed her death on Friday. Doctors had treated her since September 7, 2019, for multiple health complications.
Physicians reported that she contracted a bloodstream infection on October 17, 2025. Despite their efforts, her health declined gradually, leading to her passing at 9:21 p.m.
King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua ordered a royal funeral with the highest honours, following traditional customs. Authorities will enshrine her remains at the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall inside Bangkok’s Grand Palace. The King also declared a one-year mourning period for the Royal Family and officials of the Royal Court.
Queen Mother Sirikit earned admiration as a symbol of grace, compassion, and national pride. She rose from a young princess in Paris to a queen who shaped Thailand’s modern monarchy. She guided the nation through decades of social, cultural, and political change with elegance and influence.
She briefly served as regent and gained global recognition as a style icon. Additionally, she remained a unifying figure for Thailand’s royal family. She leaves behind her son, King Rama X, and three daughters.
The Thai people will cherish her legacy, remembering her lifelong dedication to the nation. They will also remember her enduring influence on Thailand’s monarchy.
