Imphal: In a major breakthrough against insurgent activities, security forces arrested ten militants from different banned outfits across Manipur. This occurred within the last 24 hours. The teams carried out coordinated raids in Kakching, Thoubal, and Imphal West districts. This marks a strong step in the state’s anti-insurgency campaign.
Police officials confirmed that the militants belong to the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) and the United National Liberation Front (UNLF). The forces seized one .303 rifle, three single-barrel bore rifles, three shotguns, two 9 mm pistols, three grenades, and five detonators. They also recovered several incriminating documents during the raids.
The joint operation extended to Kangchup in Kangpokpi district, where the forces destroyed more than 30 acres of illegal poppy cultivation. They dismantled farm huts and removed fertilizer bags. Additionally, they seized other materials from the area. Near the poppy fields, officers found two burnt utility vehicles. The militants had reportedly used these for transportation.
Within just 48 hours, the crackdown led to the detention of 18 extremists. Investigators revealed that those arrested had been extorting money and intimidating locals, contractors, and government employees.
To strengthen law and order, the police set up 115 checkpoints across the hill and valley districts. They also deployed security escorts for essential supply vehicles moving along National Highway 37. Officials urged citizens to stay alert, verify information before sharing, and avoid spreading false content on social media.
