Talcher, Odisha : Talcher Thermal NTPC has once again grabbed attention as heavy vehicle movement from the plant severely disrupted National Highway 149. Today, several large trucks transporting materials to and from the Talcher Thermal NTPC plant blocked the Thermal Anand Market intersection, leaving commuters stranded for hours. These massive vehicles completely cut off the direct route connecting NH-149 to the plant.
The incident began when two heavy vehicles got stuck near the Thermal Anand Market chowk while entering the plant premises. The blockage triggered a long traffic jam on NH-149, creating major inconvenience for the general public. Students could not reach their schools, and ambulances carrying patients faced extreme delays. Local residents spent hours trapped and voiced frustration over the authorities’ inaction.
Local citizens informed the administration multiple times about the heavy vehicle movement and the associated risks. They repeatedly urged Talcher Thermal NTPC officials to repair the roads and manage traffic efficiently. Despite these warnings, authorities did not implement adequate measures. Previous accidents at the same junction caused injuries and fatalities, yet officials took no preventive steps.
Adding to the concern, residents issued a stern warning that if authorities fail to take corrective measures in the coming days, they may block the road themselves. They demanded that the administration act immediately to prevent repeated disruptions on NH-149. The public insists that Talcher Thermal NTPC and district authorities coordinate closely to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow.
After several hours, workers cleared the stuck vehicles, and traffic movement resumed. However, the incident sparked public outrage, with residents warning that repeated roadblocks could occur if authorities do not act promptly. Citizens demand that Talcher Thermal NTPC repair the roads, manage heavy vehicle movement, and ensure commuter safety.
Talcher Thermal NTPC remains a critical power plant in the region, requiring the transport of large materials. Residents emphasize that public safety cannot take a back seat. Authorities must focus on proper planning, traffic management, and road maintenance to prevent similar incidents in the future.
