New Delhi : Congress National Spokesperson Supriya Shrinate triggered a major political row over Bihar after she commented on the people of the state. The BJP and JD(U) sharply criticized her remarks, accusing her of showing a “feudal mentality.” The Congress fired back, claiming that politicians in other states insult the people of Bihar, escalating the debate nationwide.
In a video shared by BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya on X, Shrinate praised Rahul Gandhi’s interaction with Biharis but described their conditions, saying, “In Bihar, people are sweating a lot and their clothes don’t look very clean…he is hugging them and kissing their heads. One can fear that they might get an infection, but he is not even washing his hands after shaking hands with anyone.”
Malviya criticized the remarks, calling them condescending and offensive to hardworking Biharis. He said, “The people of Bihar work hard and water the soil of this country with their sweat. Yet, the Congress treats them as untouchables.” He added that leaders must respect citizens in a democracy instead of acting like princes.
JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar attacked Shrinate’s comments as “baseless,” pointing out that Bihar contributed significantly to India’s independence and development. He also recalled Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge’s earlier remark calling Bihar a “small state.”
Congress spokesperson Surendra Rajput countered Malviya, accusing him of hypocrisy. He highlighted Prime Minister Modi’s past remarks about Bihari DNA and said Rahul Gandhi meets people openly, unlike BJP leaders who meet citizens behind barricades. Rajput warned that Biharis will respond politically if leaders continue disrespecting them.
Samajwadi Party spokesperson Dharmendra Singh defended Shrinate, saying that Bihar suffers from BJP-led mismanagement, migration issues, and neglect of backward communities, women, and farmers.
The controversy continues to intensify across social and mainstream media, demonstrating the importance of respecting public sentiment in key states like Bihar.
