Star Air to Launch Bhubaneswar–Jharsuguda Flights from August 16

Bhubaneswar : In a significant development for intra-state air travel, Star Air has announced the commencement of direct flight services between Bhubaneswar and Jharsuguda, starting August 16. The new route aims to enhance regional connectivity in Odisha and support the growing demand for affordable, convenient air travel.

The airline has introduced competitive introductory fares—₹1,599 from Bhubaneswar to Jharsuguda and ₹1,699 on the return journey. Jharsuguda, often referred to as the industrial capital of western Odisha, is home to major industries including coal mining, aluminum production, and thermal power generation. Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar, the state capital, is a leading center for administration, education, and information technology.

Speaking on the launch, Shilpa Bhatia, Chief Commercial Officer of Star Air, said, We are delighted to launch our services from Bhubaneswar, further expanding our footprint in eastern India. This new route not only strengthens Odisha’s regional connectivity but also supports the growing demand for affordable and efficient air travel. Star Air is committed to ‘Connecting Real India’ by reaching under-served regions.

The airline will operate Embraer E175 aircraft on the route, offering 76 seats in a comfortable 2×2 seating layout, with both economy and business class options. The service is expected to benefit both business and leisure travelers, providing reliable and comfortable options at competitive prices. Tickets are now available on Star Air’s official website www.starair.in and through leading travel booking platforms.

A key player under the Government of India’s UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, Star Air has completed six years of uninterrupted service and has carried nearly 1.5 million passengers. The airline currently operates 300 weekly flights, a number that is expected to grow to 350 during the upcoming season. Notably, Star Air is the only regional airline to have operated all routes allotted to it under the UDAN scheme—a testament to its reliability and commitment to regional growth.

The airline also continues to enhance the passenger experience by offering hot meals and beverages onboard across all routes and maintaining a premium standard of comfort with modern aircraft like the Embraer E175 and E145.

Star Air, the aviation arm of the Sanjay Ghodawat Group (SGG), began operations in 2019 with a mission to “Connect Real India”. With a fleet of nine aircraft (five Embraer E175s and four Embraer E145s), Star Air has served over 1.6 million passengers across 25 destinations in India. The airline was recognized as the Best Domestic Airline (RCS) by Wings India in 2022. It plans to expand its fleet to 25 aircraft in the next three years.

Founded in 1993, the Sanjay Ghodawat Group is a diversified conglomerate with interests in aviation, education, consumer products, energy, real estate, and retail. With over 10,000 employees and 21,000 students across its institutions, the group continues to make a meaningful impact on millions of lives through innovation and high-quality services.
