Mumbai : The evergreen devotional track “Chalo Bulawa Aaya Hai” is set to return in a reimagined version, with celebrated playback singer Sonu Nigam recreating the song for Sony TV’s upcoming show of the same name.
The song, deeply associated with spiritual faith and the pilgrimage to Maa Vaishno Devi, continues to hold an emotional connect with millions across India. Its revival in a mythological television drama aims to blend nostalgia with contemporary storytelling.
A source close to the development confirmed the news, stating, “Sonu Nigam will be recreating the most iconic song ‘Chalo Bulawa Aaya Hai’ for Sony TV’s upcoming show, which talks about hope and belief. After decades, we are revisiting our grassroots stories and mythology.”
The show narrates the journey of Maniki Singh Lodhi, an 8-year-old girl from Bundelkhand whose father, Sagar Singh Lodhi (played by Avinesh Rekhi), goes missing at the border. Maniki, portrayed by Payoja Srivastava, refuses to believe her father is gone and embarks on a faith-driven journey to Katra, seeking Maa Vaishno Devi’s blessings.
The cast also includes Alyea Ghosh as Anandi (the mother), Puneet Vashisht as the antagonist Ravindra Vijayvargiya/Bairagi, and Shruti Choudhary as the teacher and divine force guiding Maniki. The drama is produced under Siddharth Kumar Tewary’s Swastik Productions, known for mythological and historical shows.
Meanwhile, Sonu Nigam has been in the spotlight for reviving his ’90s energy. Just last week, he joined Varun Dhawan in grooving to the remixed “Bijuria” track from the upcoming film “Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari”, winning hearts on Instagram. Reflecting on the experience, Nigam said, “When we first recorded it, I had no idea it would live this long. Revisiting it now feels like a full-circle moment.”
With “Chalo Bulawa Aaya Hai” returning in Sonu Nigam’s voice, fans can expect a soulful revival of one of India’s most loved devotional anthems, now woven into a story of faith, family, and divine hope.
