Jharsuguda, Odisha : Theft Reported at MLA Tankadhar Tripathy’s Flat Located in Central Jharsuguda Under Town Police Jurisdiction. An unidentified miscreants broke into the flat of Jharsuguda MLA Tankadhar Tripathy on July 29 and made away with only one item the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) of the CCTV surveillance system, triggering serious concerns over the intent behind the theft.
According to the FIR lodged at Jharsuguda Town Police Station, the break-in occurred early in the morning around 7:00 AM at Flat No. 205. The main door was found broken, its fittings lying scattered and the lock missing. No other valuables were reported stolen, intensifying suspicion that the burglary was not for loot — but for erasing potential surveillance footage.
The MLA’s neighbour Mr. Lodha, upon noticing the broken door, discovered that the DVR — which stores all CCTV footage — was missing. Another resident, Binay Modi, assisted in searching the premises but the device was nowhere to be found.
Given that only the DVR was stolen, the incident has sparked speculation of an intentional attempt to destroy or hide crucial evidence. The breach raises critical questions about the effectiveness of security arrangements at VIP residences and the possibility of insider involvement.
Based on the complaint, Jharsuguda Police registered Case No. 304/2025 under Sections 331(4) and 305(a) of the BNS, and appointed Deputy Inspector A. Dhala samant to lead the investigation. A full probe, including recovery of surrounding CCTV footage and forensic inspection of the scene, is currently underway.
